Reiki Resources and Suggestions for Further Study

There are many books and other resources about .This list contains some of my favorites that I would recommend to any student who wants to know more about Reiki.

Books currently used in Reiki I:

The Japanese Art of Reiki. A Practical Guide to Self-Healing by Bronwen and Frans Stiene, founders of the International House of Reiki. This is an excellent and easy reading book for Japanese Reiki. It is highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn more about Reiki as a spiritual discipline.

http://www.reiki.net.au is the Stiene's website and it has a wealth of information about Japanese Reiki. I recommend all of their books and CDs. Most of their materials are available on Amazon.com and other US websites so you do not need to order from Australia.

Animal Reiki by Elizabeth Fuller and Kathleen Prasad is also used in Reiki I. It is the best book for Animal Reiki.

http://www.animalreikisource.com is Kathleen Prasad's website and it contains wonderful information about Animal Reiki.

You may also want to join her Animal Reiki Yahoo Group at http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/animalreikisource

Books that may be used in Reiki II and Reiki III:

Your Reiki Treatment: How to Get the Most Out of It by Bronwen and Frans Stiene. It is an excellent book for both Reiki Practioners and Reiki clients. It is highly recommended to everyone.

The Reiki Sourcebook, The Japanese Art of Reiki by Bronwen and Frans Stiene, is just what it says - a sourcebook with a large amount of information about Reiki. It is well researched and presented and is more of a reference book than a text book.

Other Books for further study

The Animal Reiki Handbook: Finding Your Way With Reiki in Your Local Shelter, Sanctuary or Rescue by Kathleen Prasad and SARA (Shelter Animal Reiki Association) members is a valuable reference for anyone using Reiki in shelters and has a lot of good practical advice to anyone  using Reiki with animals..

Tails from the Source: The Animal Reiki Source Newsletter Collection is a compilation of Animal Reiki Stories from Kathleen Prasad's newsletters 2004-2005. This book can be ordered on Kathleen's website - see above.

Animal Reiki Tails Vol. 2 Edited by Kathleen Prasad was just released in January 2010. This collection of animal Reiki stories includes inspiring real examples of how Reiki can support the health and wellness of a variety of species. Contributing authors are Reiki practitioners from around the world who work with animals.

Reiki Fire, Reiki The Legacy of Dr. Usui and other publications by Frank Arjava Petter provide information about the origins of the Reiki Power based on rediscovered documents.

http://www.reikidharma.com is Petter’s website and it contains additional information about the Reiki Dharma or the teachings of Usui Sensei.

The Original Reiki Handbook of Dr. Mikao Usui by Dr. Mikao Usui and Frank Arjava Petter with a foreword by William Lee Rand is a beautifully illustrated translation of the handbook Dr. Usui used with his students.

The Hayashi Reiki Manual by Frank Arjava Petter, Tadao Yamaguchi and Chujiro Hayashi is a beautifully illustrated translation of the manual Dr. Hayashi used with his students.

http://www.rainbowreikiusa.com is Walter Lubeck’s website

The Spirit of Reiki, The Complete Handbook of the Reiki System by Walter Lubeck, Frank Arjava Petter and William Lee Rand is a history of Reiki from Dr. Usui to the present and a wonderful compilation of information about Reiki by three Reiki Masters from different lineages.

Reiki The Healing Touch First and Second Degree Manual by William Lee Rand was formerly used in Reiki I and II. In my opinion, this is the best Reiki text book for Western Reiki. This book is frequently revised so be sure you get the latest edition.

http://www.reiki.org is William Rand’s website and it has lots of articles and useful items in the Webstore for Western Reiki.

Empowerment through Reiki, The Path to personal and global transformation by Paula Horan gives insight into the inner process of Reiki. Be sure to get the 1998 or later version of this book; the earlier version does not reflect the true history of Reiki.

Reiki, Hawayo Takata’s Story by Helen J. Haberly is an interesting story of Mrs. Takata and includes stories of physical healing with Reiki.

Practical Reiki by Mari Hall is a practical step by step guide to Reiki you may find useful in learning to use Reiki and understanding this ancient healing art.

http://www.wisechoices.com is Mari Hall’s website.

Reiki a Torch in Daylight by Karyn Mitchell Ph.D. is a manual for all 3 levels of Reiki that presents a somewhat different perspective on Reiki.

http://www.drmitchellnd.com is Karyn Mitchell’s website.

There are many other books out there you might find interesting. Don’t be afraid to explore and read whatever you are drawn to knowing that there will be contradictions and different ways of doing things. Some books still present what we now know as the “Takata myth” as historical fact, but recent discoveries of materials from Usui tell a different story.

If you find another book you’d like to have added to this list please let me know and I’ll check it out. This is not by any means an exhaustive list of what is available.

Other Media:

There are some wonderful CDs and DVDs available you might enjoy. Here are some of my favorites.

Reiki Meditations for Self-Healing by Bronwen Stiene is a two CD set that is highly recommended for all Reiki students. Bronwen will guide you through the meditations covered in The Japanese Art of Reiki and taught in my Reiki workshops. This series of energizing guided practices from the Japanese tradition include:

  1.  Meditations for balancing the '"three diamonds", the energies of the earth, the heavens and your own heart

  2. The Hotsurei Hô practice for building the flow of the vital life force of ki thought the body's energetic channels

  3. Focused meditations for each of Reiki's fundamental elements -- the precepts, hand postures, mantras and symbols, and the blessed energy of Reiju.

Reiki Hô by Bronwen Stiene is a single CD with the guided Japanese Reiki Meditation Hotsurei Hô

The Reiki Touch by William Lee Rand is a multi-media set including a book, an audio CD, a music CD and DVD video and 30 illustrated cards. It is a complete home learning system for people who have taken at least Reiki I and want to learn more. This is new material, not material from his text and William considers this his best work to day. It presents Western Style Reiki very well. The set is available on Reiki.org and from Amazon.com and other sources. (Order online at Reiki.org for the best price.)

Japanese Reiki Techniques Workshop taught by Frank Arjava Petter and Chetna Kobyashi. This is a VHS set recorded at their workshop and is currently out of stock on Reiki.org but hopefully it will become available again, perhaps on DVD this time.

Japanese Reiki Techniques DVD contains some of the material from this workshop with an index to you can go directly to the technique of interest. This is available on Reiki.org.

Guided Reiki Meditations on CD are also available on Reiki.org.
