MARGARET DEXTER, Ph.D.
Reiki Master, Teacher & Entrepreneur
|
Margaret Dexter is an interesting and multi-faceted person. She is
originally from Atlanta, Georgia, and has resided in Chattanooga since 1994.
Ms. Dexter, appropriately Dr. Dexter, received her undergraduate degree,
an A.B. in mathematics, from Agnes Scott College. She subsequently worked in computer
programming long before the advent of such things as Apple®;, the PC, Microsoft®;, and
the Internet. After her programming stint she returned to school. She received a Master of
Science in Information Systems and in 1972 a Ph.D. from the School of Information and
Computer Science, both degrees from Georgia Tech.
Dr. Dexter taught for five years at Augusta College and then moved to
Washington, D.C., working under government contract. She then returned to Georgia to teach
an additional five years at August College. At this point she decided to leave academia
and she moved to the state of Washington.
In Washington, Ms. Dexter and a partner began a computer business. A
year later she moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, and quit her business partnership to
begin the process of following her spiritual path. This initially began with an eighteen
month program of breath work training and then led into Reiki training.
For those unfamiliar with Reiki (pronounced Ray - key), it
is a Japanese healing technique for stress reduction, relaxation and healing on multiple
levels. Rei means Gods Wisdom or the Higher Power and Ki means
life force energy. Hence, Reiki, which fits under the rubric of energy
healing, means spiritually guided life force energy."
Ms. Dexter took Reiki-I level training in 1987 and subsequently studied
and trained with five Reiki Masters. She is now a certified Reiki Master and Teacher. She
offers Reiki treatments as well as classes to instruct and certify new practitioners.
